Lionsgate love Frank Miller The Spirit

Saturday, February 09, 2008 by Red

Lionsgate is really digging what writer/director Frank Miller is doing with Will Eisner's The Spirit. They've already signed him for two sequels to the graphic novel adaptation and, from what the studio has seen, are expecting it to be a blockbuster when the action-adventure opens on January 16, 2009.

"The Spirit" tells the visceral, action-packed story of a man (Gabriel Macht) who fakes his own death and fights crime from the shadows of Central City. The Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) -- who kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face -- has a different mission: he's going to wipe out the entire city. The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central City's rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront... all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader.

Heath Ledger Accidental Pill Overdose Killed

by Red

The Dark Knight star Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose of painkillers, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medication and other prescription drugs, the New York City medical examiner said Wednesday.

The cause of death was "acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine," spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said in a statement.

The drugs are the generic names for the painkiller OxyContin, the anti-anxiety drugs Valium and Xanax, and the sleep aids Restoril and Unisom. Hydrocodone is a widely used prescription painkiller.

Borakove wouldn't say what concentrations of each drug were found in Ledger's blood, or whether one drug played a greater part than another in causing his death.

"What you're looking at here is the cumulative effects of these medications together," she said.

The ruling comes two weeks after the 28-year-old Australian-born actor was found dead in the bed of his rented SoHo apartment. Police found bottles of six types of prescription drugs, including sleeping pills and anti-anxiety medication, in his bedroom and bathroom.

Ledger was discovered by his masseuse on Jan. 22 after she arrived for an appointment that afternoon. She entered his bedroom to set up for the massage and found him unresponsive, and proceeded to call Mary-Kate Olsen three times over the next 9 minutes before dialing 911. Ledger had been dead for some time, and police say no foul play occurred.

In a statement released through Ledger's publicist, Ledger's father, Kim, said Wednesday: "While no medications were taken in excess, we learned today the combination of doctor-prescribed drugs proved lethal for our boy. Heath's accidental death serves as a caution to the hidden dangers of combining prescription medication, even at low dosage."

Saturday, January 12, 2008 by Red

Speed Racer Rival Race Car reveled,
In the film, they'll be driving this futuristic machine that was unveled at the Tokyo Auto Salon this week. The team is a very well known Japanese team called "Autobacs Racing Team Aguri" or "ARTA", that participates in the Japanese Super GT series (and might I add is the 2007 team and driver champion in the GT300 class) with their ASL Garaiya machine.

news NEUROMANCER movie

Tuesday, January 08, 2008 by Red

Hayden Christensen will star in NEUROMANCER as Case, the former hacker at the center of the story. I'll be honest and admit I've never read NEUROMANCER and my rudimentary attempts to try and understand the plot have only confused me. But it seems very much a precursor to the Matrix with the book even referring to "the matrix." Joseph Kahn (TORQUE) is directing the film, which is essentially set up as an indie film with a big budget. It is not set up at a studio but still carries an impressive $70 million budget. It's unclear when filming would begin but it could be later this year. Christensen can be seen next in the Fox action flick JUMPER, which hits theaters in February.

Justin Marks Talks He-Man

Tuesday, November 20, 2007 by Red

Toyfare magazine chats with Justin marks about his vision for He-Man that will hopefully make it to the big screen.
Justin Marks talks about what he has planned for He-Man and Skeletor.

TOYFARE: How did you get involved with writing the He-Man script?

JUSTIN MARKS: He-Man came about as a result of a mutual collaboration with [co-screenwriter] Neil Ellice and the guys at Silver Pictures. We came together and married a take that we all really loved and that we felt would be true to Eternia for the first time. And we campaigned and pushed-everything short of getting on my hands and knees begging-for Mattel to hear it, and they did. We got in the room and we basically spoke through not only one movie, but three movies, all the way down through our dreams for the titles for the second and thrid movies and which characters appeared when.

WATCHMEN with extra segment?

by Red

Warner Bros had stumped up the spondoolies for Zack Snyder to go ahead and shoot a sweet little extra for WATCHMEN, the segment entitled TALES OF THE BLACK FREIGHTER. Apparently this extra segment might be filmed in animation, and might be released not as a DVD extra with WATCHMEN, but as a stand alone, available the same time that the movie is in cinemas.

Second up, another extra is being filmed, this time an interview with the original Golden Age crime-fighter, Nite Owl (not Patrick Wilson's character; his predecessor), discussing his career and his team, The Minutemen. The interview was based on a book that the Owl had written, and was one of the many pieces of back story that Alan Moore created to craft a rich world for the graphic novel. So apparently, 'Under The Hood' - the title of the memoir - will be filmed, 60s style and will run for an hour. Presumably this will be for the DVD release.

Filmefex worked on Hellboy II The Golden Army

Monday, November 19, 2007 by Red

Filmefex specializes mostly in makeup and prosthetics work. On "Hellboy 2," the company was involved in making a special creature for a scene that takes place in a troll market, as well as building statues and several full-sized replicas of the Golden Army.

"We have to prove ourselves on each film. The way it happens usually is that we get a smaller stake of the work and then when they feel we can handle it, they start giving us more. This was the case on 'Hellboy 2,' which we have now been working on since March." Say Ivan Poharnok Founder of the Budapest-based special effects company Filmefex

Filmefex, which has 10 permanent employees, collaborated with three other FX shops on "Hellboy 2": U.S. company Spectral Motion and two London-based companies, Creature Effects and Solution Studios.

Zack Snyder speaks on WATCHMEN

Wednesday, September 26, 2007 by Red

It's still another year and a half, before the big-screen adaptation of the seminal graphic novel WATCHMEN finally arrives in theaters, but director Zack Snyder is already hard at work and shooting the exploits of Rorschach, Nite Owl and company.

Snyder took a moment to give fans an unshaven greeting from the set, just checking in and promising to feed us morsels as the production rolls forward. Considering the online presence during the filming of 300, I believe him. Check out what he has to say.
